L. Jethro Gibbs When Push comes to shove. You taste what you're made of. You might bend til you break
Jethro opened the door to the house, putting his foot in first making sure a cat or puppy didn't come crawling out. It had been a long day and he had just been moved to the director's place. He didn't want it, he really didn't but he was stuck there now by some politcal game others around him were playing. "Shannon?" he called questioningly, as he entered the house.
He shifted one of the cats out of the way gently with his foot. He was upset but he didn't take it out on the animals. He looked around the house as he closed the door behind him. He was evidently agitated as he slammed his keys down on the table. His anger got the best of him these days after the death of Kelly. He peered around the house, he knew when he called if she was around she would make herself known. He sat down at the kitchen table and thumbed through the paper.

Shannon had been in their room petting one of the three cats in the house. She heard Gibbs’ voice and smiled. Putting the cat down she walked out towards the Kitchen. She already had dinner in the oven (Lasagna) and had been waiting for him to come home. When she got to the kitchen she saw how worried he was. ”Whats wrong Jethro?” she asked quietly moving to his side.

He looked up seeing his wife and gave a slight smirk. "They put me in charge of the whole agency, they made their decision finally this morning. It's not what I set out to do" he said clearly agitated as he laid down the paper as she came over. He never had been good at the whole politics game and he knew that Shannon knew that.
His eyes looked to his wife, there was nothing in his eyes to indicate he was even slightly liking the promotion. It had come at a great loss and he knew it. He shifted his gaze back to the table as he tried to hide his true feelings for a moment. It was hard to hide anything from Shannon. He didn't normally hide anything at all.
His voice was tentative as he spoke next. "I don't want the position Shannon." He looked back up at him truth flowing through his orbits. He sighed putting a hand on hers softly a smile creeping across his face. He looked to her face, it always made him smile. He was lucky to still have her and he knew it.

Shannon smiled slightly, thinking. She knew Gibbs was no good at politics. He never had been. He wasn’t devious, and sneaky… well most of the time anyways. She could see he didn’t like the promotion at all. She frowned as his eyes left hers and went to the table. Oh no you don’t Jethro. Came her rather fierce thought.
She nodded. ”I know love… But you’re the only person in NCIS that I know of that could even maybe control NCIS and make it work. Tony would probably do something rather stupid. He’s as bad at politics as you, and doesn’t think as much. Tim’s… well Tim. Ziva hasn’t been at NCIS long enough to be even considered.” she said softly squeezing his hand. She smiled back at him, his smile calling out her own.

He looked to her as she spoke, knowing it was all the truth. "They did do away with the assistant director position would make me next in line." He stated softly as he looked to the woman he was married to and sighed. "I'm not ready, I don't think I ever will be." he said taking his hand out of her a moment but stood up to hug her. He kissed the top of her forehead lightly. "I don't even get to be home as often, the whole thing is clearly a little rotten."
He need to talk to Jenny possibly she might have some insight for him but he wasn't about to just say he needed to speak with the other redhead. That would just be the wrong thing to say and he knew it. He closed his eyes and held Shannon, more to comfort himself than anything as he played with her hair. Something about red hair just did him in. His orbits narrowed and he thought of what might happen since politics wasn't his thing. He wasn't about to let the other agencies tramp all over NCIS that hew as very good at was keeping things away from them. Getting along on the other hand. Not so much.
He looked to Shannon a moment again. "Why don't we go out tonight, you look like you had a long day? You must have been outside in the garden?" he spoke more words to Shannon than to possibly anyone else in his life, even if she was the quiet type, it felt good to have someone to talk to. She was no different than the day he met her, which was odd because most people change over the years. He tried to keep his mind off of Kelly all these years but it never seemed to go away, the horror of that night. He turned away from her picture not able to bear staring at it, but mentioned nothing. He didn't want Shannon to worry nor did he want to upset her.

Shanon nodded. Then smiled. ”Heroes never are, love.” She murmured as he stood up and hugged her, and kissed her forehead. She frowned. ”That I don’t like.” she said quietly. This was going to be interesting then. She liked it when he came home. Life was easy and more relaxed when he was home.
She grinned at his words. ”I would love it, and yes.” She said with a smile. She gave him a quick kiss on the Cheek. She had been telling herself lately to not think about Kelly, and not to worry about it. ”You had a longer day. How’s Tony and the rest by the way?” she asked giving him a hug.

"Tony is like a little kid, one that thinks he isn't ready to grow up, but he has to. Todd is out sick and David is on vacation still, leaving McGee with Tony to hoist out all the work, it might take a few dozen paper balls and a few elevator rides but work will get done sooner or later." he smirked as he grabbed his keys off the table tossing them to her. He didn't feel like driving, he drove all day from place to place on errands which he didn't want to do anymore, but lucky for him now people at work would be driving him. He would have his own protection detail too which for Gibbs was something new entirely.
He was a marine and marine's don't need protection, but as director he had to have it. "I have an agency director meeting tomorrow, so I will be gone for a few hours, and yes I know its saturday, but we can still go to the park my meetings not until 5" he said since they spent everyday Saturday at the park, unless he was on a work related trip, that was just their thing. He wasn't about to mess that up in anyway.

Shannon smiled at his words about Tony, and the rest. ”Poor Kate. She and Ziva have to fend for themselves against Tony.” More like the other way around actually. ”The boy’s need some exercise anyways.” she said with to huge of a grin. She caught the keys, and shook her head. ”Tony’s going to copy you… you know that. Every knew probie that comes through will get a ride in the elevator with Special Agent DiNozzo.” she said leading the way outside.
She sighed sadly, then nodded. ”Alright. Hope it doesn’t take you away to long.” she said softly, as she got in their car. ”Where should we go?” she asked with a slight smile.

"Right because Ziva has sooo many problems with Tony.."he trailed off his eyes rolling in amusement to her comment. He sighed getting in the car. "Wherever you want to go though I hear there is a carnival in town."he said softly knowing how she adored all the little animals that showed up there, and it wasn't something that was there everyday, they could have a small celebration of sorts even though Gibbs didn't exactly want the promotion, it was a good thing. At least he thought about it for a moment and it might be alright.
He didn't care if the FBI was missing a few ears here and there, at least he would be able to keep them somewhat at bay with Fornell around. He was quite possibly the only agent from the CIA and the FBI that Gibbs could stand to deal with, but for now he would have to deal with their directors who hated his guts, that one could get interesting. He placed a hand on Shannon's shoulder and sighed softly. He was content right now with everything.

Shannon smirked. ”True… But still.” she said smiling. At the word carnival she grinned. ”Wonderful!” Animals. She just loved them. She found them amusing, and relaxing. She started the car an started to drive. She personally was proud of Jethro for getting premoted to Director. She knew that he hadn’t liked Vance that much, and she knew he’d be able to work things out. He still had Tony to do his dirty work, and personally he was much safer. She didn’t like it when he went into the field, and got shot at. It always worried her.
She was rather happy right then as they drove to the carnival. ”Anything else interesting? Hows Fornell?” she asked.

He chuckled looking to his wife, he knew better. "Fornell is fornell as always except I have to deal with his boss now instead of him.. Don't we just love politics" he added with a sarcastic smirk. The carnival wasn't far so he figured they would be there soon. "Take a left on Berk" he said knowing that would take them right past the carnival.
He looked to his wife and couldn't help but chuckle. Her and animals were practically joined at the hip. He was used to it by now, at first they animals had bothered him being all over the place but he smiled thinking about how crazy he must be even offering her a chance to drive him up the wall with fuzzy animals.

Shannon chuckled. ”He’ll still be around.” She knew he’d make it work. He always did. She nodded, as they got to the road and turned. ”What’s so funny?” She asked glancing at him, with a smile. She saw the Carnival, with the huge Ferris wheel, and the Zipper. She quickly drove into the Parking lot. ”Larger then usual. That’s new.” She said getting out of the car and looking around. Many cars were already there, and laughter and shreaks could be heard from the faster rides.

He ignored her comment about fornell. he was home from work and didn't want to think about it now. "I'm laughing at you, you and your animals, its cute is all" he said softly as they arrived. When they got to the ticket booth he paid and got lots of ride tickets though he was pretty sure if he left her in the barn with the animals she wouldn't even think about them at least not for a while. "I'm following you" he said softly taking her hand.
He looked around seeing all the people and the movement going on around him. He smiled looking to his wife as they went passed the cotton candy stand. "You want the blue. I only eat the pink." he asked seeing as they were mixed, and blue wasn't not his favorite.

Sharron sighed. She liked them. Mainly she found strays. Or they found her actually. The three cats had all just wandered up, or she’d nearly stepped on, and really when they made those adorable sounds, how could you not love them? She grinned, as she watched him. She squeezed his hand, then looked around. The barn? No not yet. Maybe later.
She grinned. ”Of course, hon.” she said taking some of the blue. She really did love cotton candy. She sighed as she wandered towards the Ferrise wheel. ”This one.” She said with a grin.

He couldn't not crack a smile as they headed for the ferris wheel. He managed to get them in line just in time to be closed off for the first ride. It meant they wouldn't sit very long since they would be the last to load. He took his wife by the hand and helped her into the car. He got in beside her as they closed the door on her.
