'CAPTAIN' JACK HARKNESScause this has been building since i have been breathing Two days in. Well, one, technically, as this was the second day. He'd always found it difficult to transfer, though. He built a relationship with his team, and then they were torn away at a moment's notice in order to send him where they wanted him, where he could continue to excel. It reminded him far too much of losing Gray. It always took him a couple weeks to adjust enough to avoid those thoughts. It didn't take away from his outgoing, flirtatious behavior, of course, but those were more distractions than anything during these time periods.
He sighed into the buffeting wind and flipped open his cell phone. He'd been pressing the ignore button for awhile now, but it was beginning to annoy him. It was time to finally answer it. As expected, it was his mother. She complained about crappy reception, though it wasn't due to the reception of the cell. No, that was just the wind. It made phone calls rather difficult, being on the roof did. Once she was done yammering on about how they continued to ignore her calls to the local police station about Gray, he slipped the phone back in his pocket. They'd been ignoring her for decades now. It had been thirty one years ago, after all. There wasn't anything they could do. But, it was time for him to get down to the office.
He turned around, jogging down the stairs until he reached the 'bullpen'. He really wasn't sure why that was the area's nickname, but it was, so he went with it. As expected, no one was here yet, but that was fine. He slipped his greatcoat off and hung it off the edge of his cubicle. Most thought him strange for wearing it, even in the middle of summer. It was wool, and from world war two. He was a bit of a history buff, and when he'd spotted it, still striped with the ranks of a captain, he'd instantly bought it. He'd never left it at home since, except on formal occasions. He even had many call him 'Captain', simply because 'Captain Jack Harkness' had such a nice ring to it.
He settled down to work on the rather personal case of his. He usually left Gray's case alone these days, but when his mother called he couldn't help but look again, see if he missed something. He never had. The truth of the matter was, he had ran, Gray hadn't been fast enough, their hands had slipped and he, 'Captain' Jack Harkness, hadn't noticed. He'd let his own brother slip his mind in concern for his own safety. A mistake he had vowed to never make again the day he earned his badge as a probie. He clicked open the file, staring for a moment at the face of his brother, four years old. Hardly old enough to know anything of the world, it would be a miracle if he had survived long enough to turn five, let alone this long. But it was his demon, and he couldn't let it be.

It. Was. Far. Too. Early. To be awake.
Tim had awoken at the usual ungodly hour, and after almost breaking his neck stumbling over the various things he had stashed in his house, which was a fairly usual occurrence, he had somehow managed to get showered and dressed without further incident. Of course he was sure his jaw would fall off with how much he yawned. He thought that it was already sore as he stood in line at the coffee shop, waiting for his turn in line. It seemed though, that the line was longer than usual, and in his sleep deprived mind, he was rapidly losing patience. This was probably just him though. He ordered a coffee, black, and was out the door as soon as that cup was in hand. It was probably a good thing there was a protective case over the cup, or Tim would have burned himself; which would have done nothing to improve his mood.
The wind was blowing hard by the time he made it to work. It didn't really bother him much, but he sped up his pace to make it into the building before his coat blew off. Yawning, yet again, he got on the elevator and rode it up to his usual floor, taking little sips of his coffee as he listened to the pinging of the elevator floors. By the time he got to his floor and the doors open, he had started to think that the coffee shop had ripped him off and he'd gotten decaf instead. Without really thinking about it, he walked towards his desk, dreading dealing with Tony.
He and Tony worked well together, at times. Tim was good at doing what he did, and he was good at dealing with superiors, but having Tony as a team leader? They had to deal with it once, when Gibbs left and spent time in Mexico, but knowing that this was full time and probably not going to change anytime soon left a sick feeling in his stomach. He'd never express this to anyone, but he missed Gibbs smacking him upside the head. Whenever Tony did it, McGee just gave him a sour look. It was like having your big brother have all the best toys.
He realized, belatedly, that he was in the wrong area. Tony would no doubt berate him for being late again and Tim was about to head back to the elevator when he spied someone sitting at the main desk in the room. Tim struggled for a name, his sleep deprived mind not appreciating working overtime. After a moment, the name registered with him and he grinned at the man.
" Hey. Jack, right?" He started to extend his hand for the man to shake, but realized that there was a cup of very hot coffee clasped in said hand. Frowning for a second, he switched hands with his coffee and then re-extended his now coffee cup free hand. " I'm Tim McGee. Contrary to what Tony might tell you, my name is NOT probie." Tony still called him that, despite Ziva actually being the most recent member of the team. Actually, he called them both that, but Tim was sure Tony got some sick pleasure out of calling him probie. It was almost like a pet name.

L. Jethro Gibbs When Push comes to shove. You taste what you're made of. You might bend til you break
"DiNozzo doesn't tolerate being late, the rules never changed McGee" came a voice from above halfway down the stairs. Gibbs was on his way to get more coffee when he saw McGee coming in late. He still had a way of showing up when he wasn't supposed to but McGee ought to be used to that by now. He stared at him. He was still his boss, and had to answer to him. He narrowed his eyes looking for an answer.
Tony would still get a chance to chastise him when he got there if he so chose but Gibbs was letting it known that he wasn't going to tolerate it. His mind was still whirling, he still had that pile of paperwork on his desk that he had to get to later on in the day.It would probably pile up and pile up until you couldn't see anyone behind it anymore.
He descended the stairs and rounded the corner. "What have you been doing all morning that you just up and decided that being late was acceptable McGee" he raised his voice a little, he was the same old Gibbs but with alot more on his plate at the moment. He searched McGee for anything he could read out of the kid. It was just how he had always reacted to people being late.
He then caught sight of Jack sitting there and smirked. "Set an example for McGee, if he uses it. But don't you ever leave?" he asked with a raised brow as he passed through his empty coffee was tossed in a nearby trashcan as he headed for the elevators. He turned to look back at the two. He shook his head. One never leaving ever, and the other always late, they were like clockwork and predictable. All of them predictable. If it was one thing he knew it was people.

Anthony DiNozzoBig D Little i Big N little ozzo! The other elevator pinged open, revealling a very 'serious' Tony. He'd been here for almost an hour, quite early considering it was usually him who was late! He had just returned from visiting Abby in her lab, giving her the usual Caf-Pow! for the morning. Since Gibbs was now Director, someone had to give Abby her fix! It was his first day at "boss" and he was pretty much revelling in the chance to boss Probie about and be allowed to do it this time! He smiled at Gibbs as he met him outside the elevator Hey boss! How's the new office working for ya? He knew he'd get a sarcastic comment back - maybe one of Gibbs' infamous headslaps if he was lucky. He's miss those slaps - he knew he'd get some but not as often as he used to! A charasmatic smirk on his face as he walked into the bullpen, coffee in hand like a younger Gibbs. You're late Probie! He set it down on his new desk - though he did love his old desk so much. So many good times they had: eating pizza, sleeping, emailing girls in the office.... he sighed quietly to himself. He also noticed the other Team Leader in the room for the secondary division - "Captain" Jack or something like that? He gave him a slight nod in acknowledgement in his own predatory way. Though DiNozzo had his own team, he was still territorialover his new position.

'CAPTAIN' JACK HARKNESScause this has been building since i have been breathing Jack quickly minimized the screen he had been staring at as he caught sight of someone approaching his desk. He didn't need anyone knowing. He knew if they did, they might be willing to help, but this was one thing he didn't want help on. It was his mistake, and he would be the one to figure out what the consequences had been. He rolled his chair to the corner of the desk, where it was easier to shake hands without leaning over and took the man's hand, classic crooked grin on his face, the one that most people attributed to him flirting. Not always true, though for the most part it was. It probably didn't help that he added a wink, but, hey, that was just who he was.
Nice to meet you, Tim.
He let his hand slid away, just as the stern voice of the director, whom he had already met, obviously, carried across the squadroom. He glanced over, grin fading into an amused smile. He did a quick, fake salute to his boss, mouthing an 'aye, aye sir', though not quite daring to say it out loud. He was still new, after all, and, despite his obvious charm and outgoing personality, it would take a few more days for him to open up entirely.
Then, this place started to really take off as the elevator pinged and another agent, who he presumed was the other team's leader(though he'd been wrong before), came off, coffee in hand. That was one thing Jack had in common with most people here, it seemed. An affinity for an excess of coffee. Though, he could never quite get over the lovely smell of those cafe mocha's they'd had at his old office. They had been positively delicious.
He rolled his chair back in behind his desk, bringing the window up for a mere moment only to close out of it fully. He leaned over, placing his elbow on his desk and resting his chin on the upturned palm of his hand, perfectly happy to simply watch these new people, get a better feel for them than he already had. His gray-blue eyes would miss little as long as he didn't have reports to write or cases to work.

The truth was, McGee didn’t care in the least what Jack was working on at the moment. It wasn’t that he was maliciously uncaring, he just knew that people didn’t like other people shoving their noses where they didn’t belong. Tim didn’t like it, and as such, he wasn’t going to do it to someone else. As such, he didn’t even seem to care when Jack minimized his screen. Tim knew what he was doing. He was a computer genius, remember? He could tell when someone was anxious not to have something seen, but he paid it no attention, and he didn’t let it be known that he knew what Jack was doing. He definitely caught the wink though, and he gave the other man a quizzical look.
He didn’t have much of a chance to think about what Jack was up to, because as soon as he heard Gibbs’ voice, Tim straightened up. The words left his mouth even before he could even think about keeping them in. “ Sorry boss. I know.” Fumbling, Tim made his way over to his desk, sitting down quickly. Not only did he tell ‘sorry’ to Gibbs, but he was acting as if Gibbs was still his team leader. He didn’t even think about it. Whenever Gibbs showed up, instinctively, Tim thought of him as ‘boss’ and probably always would. There was no way that Tony would take Gibbs’ place on this team.
"What have you been doing all morning that you just up and decided that being late was acceptable McGee"
He looked up at Gibbs, mind scrambling for an acceptable excuse. My alarm clock didn’t go off, just wouldn’t cut it. The more he thought, however, the lest he came up with, and he just had to concede that he wouldn’t be able to satiate his new director. After a while, he sighed a little and shook his head some. “ It won’t happen again boss.”
He heard his name mentioned again, but it seemed Gibbs was now more focused on Jack, and he’s be able to slip under the radar from now on. Unfortunately for him, Tony was actually taking his job as Team Leader seriously, and for once, he had showed up to work before McGee. That meant that Tony would know that Tim had been late. Hopefully though he wouldn’t mention it…
“Hey boss! How's the new office working for ya? You're late Probie!”
‘ Just. Great.’
He glanced up as Tony walked over and sat in Gibbs’ old desk. In a lot of ways, Tony reminded him of Gibbs, but no matter how hard he tried, Tony wasn’t and would never BE Gibbs. For once, Tim wished that he would stop trying to be someone he wasn’t. It would benefit the whole team. “ So I noticed.” He stated flatly, eyes shifting over to the empty desk in the corner. It wasn’t like Ziva to be late. McGee hoped she was okay. He motioned towards the desk with his head. “ I’m not the only one.” He then looked back to Tony. “ Have you seen Ziva lately?”
It would take a while for Tim to start treating Tony like a leader. He had to earn that kind of respect, and no amount of posturing was going to get him there. It took real actions.

Tony pulled a smirk at McGee when he replied, he seemed touchy today. Any bets that Gibbs had already laid into him about being late. He let out a little laught to himself, shaking his head slightly.
He glanced over at the empty desks. Ziva certainly wasn't there... neither was Kate, who'd promoted to Senior Field Agent with Tony's promotion. Hmmmm.... both missing. Maybe they're.... He raised his eyebrows playfully. He didn't have to speak the words, his team knew how dirty-minded DiNozzo was. It didn't take a scientist to work out what he was thinking.
He glanced over that the other Team Leader, watching the scene between the two agents. He raised an eyebrow at this... other Team Leader. He didn't like competition, this guy wasn't gonna take his place... not a chance! Tony logged onto his computer, smirking as he tried to mail that hot chick from the other crime team. He knew it was a failed mission even trying but Tony wasn't the type of guy to give up!

'CAPTAIN' JACK HARKNESScause this has been building since i have been breathing Jack reverted to opening up his email as the other two talked, though he certainly wasn't ignoring them. He never ignored anyone, even when he was working. He could be fully focused on one thing, while still listening in, not that it took much concentration to flip through his email. Most of it wasn't important stuff anyway, just people from his old team checking on him, seeing how he was doing. He dragged them into a folder to read later as he worked his way through the rest of them.
He glanced up over his monitor as Tony's suggestion. He doubted the man was actually serious, but the idea was amusing to Jack nonetheless, even if he didn't know this Ziva lady and whoever else was missing. Kate, he was pretty sure. At least, that was the other name he'd heard mentioned from across the squadroom the day before, the only one he hadn't heard yet this morning.
Shortly before looking back to his screen, he noticed Tony watching him rather defensively. Or, at least, that's how he'd qualify that look. He had his own team; Why would he try and take the other's position? Oh well. DiNozzo would think how he would think, and Jack wasn't about to change that. Freedom of thought. In fact, he wasn't even sure if he wanted to be here. But he hadn't had much choice. He'd been told he was getting put in this position in this city, and so here he was. He had no control over that, so everyone would have to simply get used to. Including himself. He glanced up to the other two.
Quick question; Should I bother attempting to trust the coffee here?
Completely off topic, but also entirely serious, he posed his rather crucial question. He'd lucked out at the last place he'd been; The coffee had been absolutely fantastic. He knew well enough not to trust he'd be that lucky this time. He knew for sure there was a good coffee place just around the corner, but if he didn't have to go that far, he wouldn't.

L. Jethro Gibbs When Push comes to shove. You taste what you're made of. You might bend til you break
Jethro looked over to the others as he was still leaning on the wall. "David is on vacation, Todd is out sick DiNozzo" he said bluntly as if the man should have known already that is where they were, that was his job now. "Better learn to keep better track of your team" he added almost in an amusing manner as he sipped on the end of the his coffee. When a comment was made about the coffee in the place. "The coffee here is terrible." he stated as a matter of factly to Jack. He laughed as he tossed the empty coffee cup in a nearby trashcan which happened to be DiNozzo's old one which now belonged to Kate.
He was amused with the group this morning in his own little way. It was kind of funny to watch them run amuck in the morning. He had alot on his mind at the moment. There was still a ton of paperwork upstairs that he needed to look through some of it needed to come down here, but he was the biggest procrastinator the paperwork, he was worse than DiNozzo at times. He still didn't think he needed to be the one with all the answers.
"DiNozzo a word" he said waving his hand over for the man to come over to him he wanted to say something but he really didn't want the others to hear but it didn't warrant a walk to the office or the elevator just to the other side of the stairs where he could talk without the entire cubicles listening in on what he needed to talk to DiNozzo about. He was more or less going to drop some hints on the kid, it was the least he could do. It was something he noticed about him that bothered him. It wasn't his attitude, Gibbs knew that it would never change.
He ambled over behind the stairs"DiNozzo" he stated sharply shaking his head sort of to the side as he walked around the corner waiting for the man to catch up. He didn't seem mad, because he wasn't but he didn't seem very welcoming either, though when Jethro needed a conversation with someone it wasn't usually a warm welcome to begin with, that was just his demeanor but it was pretty well known through out the building.

Tony had almost thought Gibbs had left in the elevator, big mistake number one! He heard the looming voice from behind him, he turned pretending to hide behind his usual charming exterior. Sorry boss, musta forgot about that memo. Slipped my mind... He slipped a sly look to McGee, pulling one of those faces when he got in trouble. He figured his team would be increibly tight with the girls gone - just him and McGeek running the show. And Abby ofcourse. Though he had to share Abbz with the other team, she would always be MCRT to him!
Tony continued the narrowed-eyed look towards Jack's way, oblivious to the fact he could see it and missing Gibbs' call in his direction. He snapped out of his daze at Gibbs' second call. He wasn't doing well to keep in Gibbs' good books... as usual but hey, what was new! He jogged over towards the stairs, catching a glimpse of Gibbs from the corner of his eye. Yeah boss?

Well, he was a little defensive. It wasn't nice for anyone to be reamed out not once, but twice in front of someone new. Especially coming from someone who hadn't been any higher up on the totem pole than him just a day ago. He had always treated Tony like a leader though. He was the senior field agent before McGee came onto the scene. Still, it wasn't nice. He should have been used to that by now though. After all, when had this place been nice?
He rolled his eyes at Tony, tapping at his keys as he did so. He knew that man. He didn't need to guess at what he had been thinking....and he didn't need to say anything, because Gibbs was already setting DiNozzo straight. Tim held back a laugh.
He did laugh though, when Jack asked about the coffee. He waited for Gibbs to speak. He knew coffee better than any of them. After, he held up his own cup, grinning.
" Which is why I always buy mine from the outside."
Then Gibbs called Tony off to a secret meeting. He was used to this by now, but he often wondered how Gibbs was coping to being director. He knew that Gibbs was used to being a field agent, and that was all he ever was. It must have been difficult for him. It didn't matter. Gibbs was the least of all to be talking about his emotions to anyone, especially McGee. It was better to stop thinking about things like that and just keep his head in his work.

'CAPTAIN' JACK HARKNESScause this has been building since i have been breathing Jack chuckled at their reply to his question, noticing how Tony still seemed to refuse to speak to him. He very nearly said something, but before he knew it the director was already herding him off to talk to him about something. Somehow, he doubted it was talking in Jack's defense. He even doubted the gray-haired man wanted him here, or trusted him at all, but that would come with time. There were always going to be those who accepted it, like Tim, and those who hesitated, like the other two.
Right. I'll remember that then. Just figured, easier to ask than try it.
He replied, beginning to feel a bit more left out. The others knew each other so well, and it wouldn't be too much of a problem for him normally, but his team member, Lilliana, wasn't here, so he was all on his own right now. He supposed he could wrap up sending in those reports he hadn't had time to print before they'd kicked him here. They were already written, and it would be easy. Then again, he could look over Gray's stuff again... No. No, he should really get to those reports. He sighed, torn between the two even though he should only be doing one of them. The other was for spare time only, or, at least, as supposed to be.
Then, of course, an email from his old boss popped up bugging him for the paperwork and he was back on track, attaching the files and waiting as they loaded onto the email. A few moments later and he was sending them off. No team and no case still. He instantly opened up Gray's case again, though he had the details memorized by now.

"David and Todd will be out a while, for now you will work with Jack's team until further notice. I'm not leaving just 2 agents on a team." he said blankly, it would be temporary and he knew it, he only hoped he could convey that Tony. He had already informed Jack. He narrowed his eyes. "He answers to you for now, but keep in mind those are still his agents, he can still step in and correct you with his agents if he so wishes."he stated clearly.
He looked around the corner to make sure others weren't peering around on them. "I will split the teams again when either Todd or David comes back." he said with a shrug not knowing how long either of them was going to be out. With them it was hard to tell. Women were too emotional.

Tony nodded as he listened to Gibbs' information on both teams working together. It made sense, though not Tony's ideal situation. He had worked in a team with two leaders before, back in Baltimore and it didn't work. There was deceipt, bitterness amongst other things. He didn't let this on however and just answered Gibbs. No problems Boss.
Atleast he'd been updated on the new change, though he wasn't the first to know ofcourse. He went back to his new 'improved' team, sitting at his new desk and listening to the probie talk coffee with the other team leader. Fingers flicked over onto his email. That girl from the legal department had replied back. A smirk graced his face as the buttons on his keyboard made an interesting tune as he sent another email. Who ever said DiNozzo wasn't a ladies man?
((sorry its short... muse wasn't there =[))
