It might have been odd to see McGee outside of work, but he had a life like anyone else. Most of the time he had was spent cooped up in his apartment, writing and programming. He had to get out sometimes too, to get away from all the horrible things he saw in his line of work. Never was this more urgent than after he got Jethro. The dog was the one think he never knew he needed. It got him outside when he wanted to stay in. He hadn't thanked Abby yet for making him take the dog, but he was sure that his confidence and demeanor as of late had been thanks enough.
The park was beautiful in the summer, the air cool against his skin. The large dog tugged at the leash, probably seeing another squirrel. Tim tugged back and the dog started to behave. He was a surprisingly obedient dog, probably because of his previous owner. He still remembered when Jethro had almost killed him. Jethro...he would never get over what Abby had named this dog. Seemed fitting almost...though he would never be caught dead comparing Gibbs to a dog to his face. He didn't even want to see the kind of fallout that came with an accusation like that.
He sighed softly, running a hand through his hair. Work had been stressful as of late. What with Gibbs ascension to director, Tony's promotion to Team Leader, and now the case with Jeanne. He had never seen Tony so serious before, and if he had to be completely honest before, it was a bit disturbing. He was so used to Tony's inappropriate jokes and actions that he wasn't sure at all if he liked this new version of DiNozzo. He probably had to get used to it though. It didn't look as if Gibbs was coming back anytime soon, and this Jeanne thing was just complicated as hell. So it looked like he just had to deal with it.
At least he could enjoy the time he did have off, and he felt almost normal, walking his dog like any other person. He probably looked normal from the outside, but almost is not all normal, and he couldn't completely rid himself of the feeling of the gun strapped to his waist, hidden under his shirt, and the feeling that any moment someone might want to kill him. He was an NCIS agent. McGee had probably made a lot of enemies just for being on Gibbs team and now Tony's. It was best to always watch your back and not to take anything for granted. No matter how trivial it may seem.
...even a walk in the park.
