'CAPTAIN' JACK HARKNESS

The white coffee cup tumbled rather ungracefully into the trash can, nearly bouncing out. The throw had been pretty accurate nonetheless though, so the man who had emptied it out grinned from his position a good couple meters away. He got a few strange looks, but he brushed them off and chalked it up to his attire. After all, it was summer and everyone was in t-shirts besides him. He, the odd one out, was in a heavy woolen greatcoat from the Second World War. If he had meant to stand out, he was certainly succeeding.
Leaing his hands dangling loosely at his sides, he began his stroll down the sidewalk. He had a car, but it was his day off and he'd decided the walk would be good for him. 'Home' wasn't all that far anyway, just about a kilometer and a half. He'd gotten rather luck in finding an apartment.
However, the planned quick walk home was bound to be interrupted as he passed by an alley, catching movement out of the corner of his eye. His step paused then backed up a bit, glancing over his shoulder into the small area. An angry frown creased his face at what he saw; a group of kids beating up another kid, smaller and younger than them.
Hey!
He shouted out to them, striding down the alley confidently, hand ready to pull out the Webley he carried as a spare gun, not his service weapon. If he had to fire a shot into a garbage bag or something to startle them off, he would. They looked up at his original call though and scattered, brushing past him quickly and disappearing into the busy streets. Well, that had been easy. He looked back over to the kid they'd been beating up, about to ask if he was okay before that kid, too, ran past him.
'Leave me alone!'
Jack spun around to face him as he ran, somewhat startled, but not by much. He'd almost expected it. Still, though, the kid could have said thank you. Ungrateful little squirt. It left him annoyed as he walked out of the alley.
Was only trying to help. Geez.
