She was pacing. She usually didn't pace, but she knew where she got it. Her father use to pace constantly in his study; now her study. She was pacing in the exact same room as he used to, but it shouldn't matter. She had more important things to dwell on than the passing of her father and that 'mirror mirror, on the wall, she was her father, after all', unlike the usual phrasing on being one's mother. Whatever. She was freaking and that was evident; all week she had been acting oddly and she regrettable knew that sooner or later, Jethro was going to catch up with her and interrogate her as to why. That was not going to be a pleasant conversation what with what he had been through in his past. It would not bode well for the young...no, she wasn't young! This could be dangerous; the possibility of survival decreased as age rose. At the beginning of the week, she had noticed that her clothing seemed to shrink half a size, but it hadn't concerned her, while later on in the week more odd sensations that she couldn't quite describe.
Jen groaned and slammed her fist on the desk momentarily before going to grab a light jacket and head out her door. She closed the door to her car roughly, wanting to drive somewhere by herself. Of course, logic would inform anyone that her guards were close behind in pursuit. She didn't care and was certain to not drive the vehicle into anyone or any object. She knew to keep her head while driving. Ever since destroying her father's red Chevy Camero when she was 17, Jen knew that anger behind a wheel was not smart. She parked the car in a decent neighborhood and stepped out into the sun, shielding her eyes briefly.
Jennifer Shepard went for a walk in some business area she didn't exactly know the name of and didn't really care. What she needed now was time to clear her head and form a plan of attack. The fresh air was good for her and she knew the possibility of being spotted by anyone she knew was slimmer around here. Her hands were grasped firmly behind her back and she walked a leisurely pace, enjoying the slight breeze that headed her way, and glad to have been able to get off work for the next two days. She needed to tell him, but how? But the most important question was:
How would he react?

He had seen her take off and followed her and parked a distance away. He was going to get her to talk. He had noticed she had been acting funny and away from anyone other than him at NCIS was a good of time as any. "Jennifer" came the sharp retort of a voice trying to grab her attention. He caught up to her and spoke rather sharply, as he decided to just be straight forward with her at this moment."Jen what is going on?" he asked with one of those questions that meant he wasn't going to give this up until she started talking.
He then cut her off on the walk and pushed her against the wall. "Start talking" he stated rather softly. It wasn't about to hurt her. His voice may have softened but his eyes didn't. He could only let his mind go to the fact she was hiding something from him and he had finally decided to just corner her. He released her waist giving her room to get out of his grasp if she wanted but only because he wasn't out to make a huge public mess of anything. He shot a glance at the security guards who had approached him. His glance sent the security guard back. He looked to Jen and sighed a moment. "Im worried about you, you haven't been yourself recently" he admitted. Why he admitted it he would never know. But everyone knew Jethro worried all the time.

Her eyes widened when her name had been called so suddenly. Or at least, so suddenly to her; she must have been more upset and enthralled in her thoughts than she knew. She ignored him and merely smiled amiably when he caught up to her. A sigh escaped Jen's mouth when he forced her against the wall a slight grin on her face. She didn't want to talk, she had wanted to work things out be herself and then approach him; not the other way around. Nevertheless she stayed silent and decided to lean up and kiss him romantically, pressing her body into his, her arms wrapping around his neck. She pulled away after a bit and shook her head about his previous comment for her to spill it. She saw the guard out of the corner of her eye and knew that it wasn't Jethro who sent him back to his spot, but the fact that she had steamed things up.
Jen sighed dramatically before speaking. "I'm fine Jethro; really. There's no need to worry about me. I've just been going through some changes," well at least that much was true. Now that she thought about it, Jen realized that it was their trip to the beach that first indicated something was different. Her bathing suit was a little taut!

He shook his head taking her by the hand. "Jennifer"he stated. It was that tone he knew she was hiding something and she just wasn't about to get away with it. He hadn't failed to notice the way she was acting and he had his own opinions on the matter but he wasn't about to speak them. He decided to take a step back, but it was one of those there needs to be room here so we don't hit the telephone pole step. He stepped around it and caught back up with her.
There wasn't much he had to say to her. He narrowed his eye lids and waited for a response from the girl who thought her bikini had been too tight at the beach. He knew better than to presume that she was okay though. (and that was probably my worst post ever... sorry miko )

"Oh come on, Jethro. You're not my father; stop using my full name," she said, exasperated. She rolled her eyes and sighed, still attempting to gather her thoughts so she could bring herself to finally telling him her suspicion. The reason it was a suspicion was that she had yet to consult a doctor and get an official examination. Her mind continued to race with thoughts of keeping her expression plain, what to say, how to say it, and nonsense. Before she could even control herself, her lips parted and she blurted the truth out, shocking even the guards. "I'm pregnant."
((eh. mine's no better.))

L. Jethro Gibbs All the roads I’ve traveled All the mountains I put behind But still I can’t seem to get you off of my mind
He paused as he looked to her as she spoke. A silence came upon his facade but he let his eyes do the talking. Though his thoughts were kept well hidden. 'Child right.." his thoughts were uneasy about the whole thing. Kelly could never be replaced and he knew that, not that this was a replacement for her but he just didn't see having another child ever, much less with Jenny. They perhaps hadn't thought about the consequences of that day in his office, if they had the topic of discussion and the last week would have been vastly different.
He finally decided to speak his mind. "That's wonderful Jen" he really was trying to be glad because he knew she wanted children one day. Perhaps not under the circumstances, but his eyes were trying to hide his emotions as well as show her he was happy for her. He wasn't about to take off and go anywhere because that wasn't him. At the moment, he wasn't really sure what he was supposed to think. It was all too confusing and he knew why she had kept it from him.
"Do not feel you have to hide things from me" he stated, knowing that they kept far too many secrets from each other but that was just how the two were. Always afraid of what the other would say or do. Somethings just didn't deserve to be kept a secret anymore. He touched the side of her arm lightly then dropped it to his side as he looked away trying to keep his eyes from betraying him as they did so often with her.

Her held fear as she watched his own eyes and body for his reaction. He wasn't responding well to her declaration and she had suspected it. She wasn't about to take drastic measures to ease his worry and pain; she just wasn't like that any more. Or, she at least hoped she wasn't. She wanted a child too much, but danger was attached to the sentence of the nine month trek. 'Wonderful...yeah right. You're upset over this.' she thought to herself, eyes cast down at the tar beneath her feet. For moments she contemplated about having told him a lie rather than the truth and deal with the consequences once she got away from him. He was torn between emotions of the death of Kelly and having a child with her. Jen knew this wasn't easy for him and it truly upset her that he was feeling this way; not that she could change his feelings.
'But I have to keep things from you; to protect you.' she thought weekly, a lump growing in her throat at her pent up thoughts and feelings on the situation. She didn't want to cry, not out here in public, definitely not in front of him. She didn't want him to know how badly this was hurting her, she wanted to put his emotions and needs above her own. But......she's been waiting too long for an opportunity like this; she's always wanted a child, and if it were with him that was even better. She continued staring at the ground, attempting to figure out what to say so she could get away from him.

He could tell that she was upset he let out a soft sigh. He then tried to explain himself."Jenny, this really is wonderful, its just hard, we will get through it" he stated bluntly. He really wanted to help her get through this and he knew this is what she wanted and he wasn't going to push the envelope too far, he knew better.
He held his hand out for her, inviting her to come walk with him. He knew she wanted to run or for him to go away but that wasn't about to ditch her. He would eventually deal with this, he didn't know how exactly he would, but that was for him to worry about and not her, "Be happy for her, this isn't about kelly" he thought to himself his mind not being able to get his daughter off his mind at the moment.
"Let's go get some coffee and talk okay?" he was oddly enough trying to be reasonable about all of this, when he really wanted to run from his own thoughts and his own past. He waited a moment to see where she wanted to go with all this. He was still mulling this over in his brain. He would definitely take care of the both of them, that was not the issue. There were many other pressing issues on his mind. He as always didn't care what others thought.
He saw her eyes even though she was trying to hide them. "Don't draw so many conclusions, I am not going anywhere, and I want you to be happy" he stated, his eyes evidently telling the truth through his confusion. His confusion would subside over time. Just how much time, one would never know. He waited for a response as he headed towards the coffee shop his hand still inviting her to follow.

Her eyes shyly moved up to view his own, unshed tears in her bottom eyelids. She sighed, trying to calm herself so she could speak. Her mouth opened and as she started to say something, her voice caught. Jen closed her lips and attempted to gulp down the lump that had formed in her throat, knowing that not far off a cascade of salty water would occur. "I know that...that you aren't going anywhere; you never s-shirk responsibility. It's just...I want to be away from you," Jen's words started to pick up momentum and she seemed to be barely breathing as she continued. "I know you are taking this hard- well, more than hard. I...I don't want to bother you with this. I know it's horrible and happy at the same time, or at least you are trying to make it seem that way. I know I should just leave you alone." Jen moved away from him, intent on letting him be and continuing her walk or heading home if she became too distraught.

He sighed as he looked to Jen, unable to really deal with his emotions which he more or less was trying to hide, but she knew him too well. "Calm down before you hyper ventilate." he stated taking her arm whether she wanted him to her or not. He pulled her towards the bench so she could sit down. "This isn't about me for once" he stated finally admitting what he could never really admit to her. He wanted her to calm down but he figured he wasn't helping. "Sit down and I'll go if you want me to' he stated rather bluntly. He didn't feel that leaving her alone was a great idea at the moment but he would let her do what she wanted.
He wandered back towards his car and clicked the keys to unlock the doors. His mind was in too many places at once. He didn't say another word. If she wanted to follow she could he wouldn't stop her. He got in the drivers seat and closed the door. He pulled down his visor and just kind of stared at it. This was his personal car and so it didn't seem to odd. The last person he wanted to end up like was his dad. His mind reeled to Kelly and slamming his hands on the dashboard were about the only thing that kept him screaming her name half a block in fury. He bit his lip. Could he do this all over again?
'She's gone Jethro you can't change that.' He kept his thoughts to himself in that car at the moment. He ran a hand down the steering wheel before starting the car. If she wanted to join him, he gave her the opportunity too one last time before he began driving down the block and turning towards wherever he felt like driving. He drove his normal fast speed and his foot on the pedal screamed what his words wouldn't. He wasn't furious at Jen and he wasn't furious over the baby. You can't be mad at something as innocent as that. He was mad at himself mostly. Mad at his past and lots of other things at the moment. He sighed as he pulled up to stop sign and just waited. He didn't really know why he was stopping he just stopped.

Jen grudgingly sat on the bench, observing Jethro as well as she could through the torrent of water stinging her green eyes. 'It's about me...?' Her elbows rested on her knees and her head was cradled in her hands as the distraught woman attempted to calm herself down and steady her oncoming sobs. She stayed silent, gathering her breath and trying to form words, but failed miserable. Her head shot up as he finally left, shocked that he would after saying he wasn't going anywhere. Her eyes widened, but she didn't feel the urge to chase him. Mainly because she didn't know what she wanted or had to say. She thought about it as she stared blankly at him in the car, noticing his anger showing briefly. She wanted to be at home in his arms being promised everything would be okay, him revealing everything to her; not keeping her in the dark as he was so prone to do.
Maybe they weren't meant to be together... Jen's mind barely registered her lover's personal car leave its parking space and definitely hadn't noticed the approach of a man in a black suit and shades.
"Perhaps we should return to your Brown house?" the man offered quietly, obviously hiding her presence from curious passersby.
Her head slowly rose to meet his sunglasses and shook the thoughts she had presently out of mind. She stood up slowly, the man stepping back to give her space.

Gibbs didn't go to far. He decided he was needed more back where she was. He climbed back out of his car and got over taking her hand . "Look at me, I promised we would work this out didn't I?" he asked almost defiantly. He pretty much had enough of her attitude and wasn't going to let her get away with it, but he also knew when he was needed. He was letting his confusion show in his face. "I don't know what you want Jenny, I get all of this 2 days before what would be Kelly's birthday, you can't honestly expect me to not think about it can you? I told you I was here and you push me away, yet I know better." he was evidently still angry and until he finally broke (which was never a short road) this would probably bother his conscious. "Like I said this isn't about me, In time I will deal with whatever this is, I always do. Do yourself a huge favor and stop wondering how I am supposed to be getting along. I know you are thrilled about this, and I know you would be lying if you said you weren't. We both know the truth, so drop the act and be happy for yourself for once and stop worrying about everything else." he stated.
It had been a mouthful, but he was being honest it showed to through his eyes which he wasn't going to let lie to Jen. He hid things from her but never once lied to her. He stuck out a hand for her. "Are you coming or am I to assume you are walking home?"he mused at her. He waited for her to make up her mind. He would come around in his own time to being content with things as they were. Right now he could only just be happy for her, but confused and angry for his own actions and everything surrounding this. Then if Shannon found out, that would be the be end, end all of that, and he knew it. It wasn't his place to tell his ex wife either. But he had an inkling he would be seeing her at the park in a few short days time and have to explain himself then.
He had no idea what to think at the moment other than taking care of Jen, it was one of those survival skills no one knew where he picked it up from. He rarely thought of himself before others, but it wasn't always so evident. He glanced up again to the Secretary of the Navy. His voice softened a moment. "Come lets get you home"he stated. His eyes drifted down to the ground as he spoke. He waited for a response, he wouldn't be completely suprised if he was blown off by her again.

Jen's mind reeled when Jethro stepped out and in between her and the security detail agent; she had definitely not been expecting this, but it was welcomed. She stared at him, face emotionless, but glad he was getting this out for her to hear. It was nice that he decided to come back to her. She closed the distance between them and wrapped her arms under his arms to rest on the backs of her shoulders, head resting on his chest. Jen's face broke into a small smile, unable to come up with words to say and let hims finish what he had to say. Instead of responding with her voice, Jen bent up and left a light kiss on his lips, pulling back so he could see her light smile.

He found his arms wrapping around her to return the hug. It wasn't something he did light heartedly on a whim either. He felt her lips touch his, he lightly returned her kiss and let her pull away as she wished. The soft smile on her face told him what he needed to know. He opened her door for her,he could be a gentleman if he wished, it wasn't often it happened but it did on occasion. Kelly's piano tape was in his tape deck, it started playing when he started the car and he turned it off and put it away. If Jen asked her would tell her, but he didn't mention why he took it out.
His attention turned in her direction. "The car doesn't bite either, come on get in." he offered. He watched as the security guard just kinda backed away, they always seemed to when Gibbs came around. He had lost his own security detail again, since he was on duty and this was a personal matter. He was just glad his security detail didn't follow him home. 'Crap I been discovered' he thought as he saw his security detail's car pull in behind him. Just what he needed Junior NCIS agents following them to Jen's. He waited for Jen and gave one of his smirks not knowing really what to say at the moment. It was a bit ackward yet not a bad ackward.

She followed him to his car glad to leave with him rather than deal with things by herself and probably resort to simply crying. She rewarded him with a light smile at his jest and positioned her body to relax inside the car. She closed the door and buckled up, turning to face him. "I don't know, Jethro. I have yet to travel with you in this car, so for all I know it could bite me," she joked back, eyes sparkling ever so slightly; she was still recovering from her almost tirade of tears on that very public bench. Jen was thankful she hadn't broke out in full-blown crying in case someone recognized her and her title; also glad the guard had come over with a caring voice.
Her life was dramastically changing every second of every day and it was only going to continue now that she had a life inside of her depending on her love and care. Jen couldn't shake the feeling of immense joy that overwhelmed her and tears sprang to her eyes again; such a stark contrast to the blissful smile displayed on her face. She was in love and had the love returned, was granted her deepest, darkest, and most wanted desire for years now; life couldn't seem sweeter to the woman sitting shot-gun to one Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
